Brave books

What made me happy today? Having an awesome weekend in London!
Okay, technically, it was in Watford. But it was fun!
We (that is the BF and I) took the Eurostar on Friday. All went well, and soon I was reunited with my brain-twin! Underground we went, to take the underground! (see what I did there?) One stop later we hopped onto a train, and soon we got to our destination. Went to Tesco the next morning, huzzah for cheap, healthy cookies! We also wend book-shopping on Saturday, as both the BF and myself are avid readers. I scored a grand total of 12 books, at some really awesome low prices (yay for charity shops!)! And to top it off, we had supper at the local pub. I had the all-day breakfast :-) Yum!
That evening it was time for my brain-twin's Brave themed birthday party. As she is a dead ringer for princes Merida, we all dressed up! No pics yet, they will follow once I get them. It was a blast! I discovered cider, we played darts and pool and had loads of laughs. There was a moment in which we thought I might be secretly British, I love cider and my favorite flavour of crisps is salt & vinegar. But as I don't like queuing, and have no sentiment regarding talking about the weather it was unanimously decided I am in fact not British after all. Last call came too fast, so we relocated to my brain-twins house. Talked, laughed some more, discovered you can order booze online and watched some Black Books :-) I went to bed around 2, happy but totally tired.
Sunday, we woke up around noon. Had some breakfast, I dyed my brain-twin's hair, talked a lot more, went back to Tesco (jam-filled donuts for 65p? No wonder there's an obesity problem) and bought some food. Back home pancakes and jam-filled donuts were served for afternoon tea, after which we went for a walk, and sat in a park. A perfect way to end a perfect weekend!
Today we came home, which was totally uneventful. So now I'm off to bed, to have fun-filled dreams :-)

200!

What made me happy today? Reaching 200!
Yes, this is my 200th blog post! Woohoow :-)
And I got something for free, just because I was polite. I'm going on vacation tomorrow. We'll be driving through France, which requires having alcohol testers in your car. So I went to pick up a pair. I walked through the entire store, but no sight of them. In the meantime, the employee behind the desk was dealing with a rather rude customer. I felt kind of bad for the employee, so I put on my nicest smile when I went up to the desk / register to ask about the alcohol testers. That's when I spotted them. In a basket at the register. So I took two, and gave them to that employee. I told him about how I had trouble finding them but only did when I wanted to ask about them which I found funny and made me giggle a bit. He looks at me with this relieved look (probably because I wasn't shouting at him like the previous customer) and says 'well, I'll give you the second one for free, because you're being so nice and polite.' My jaw dropped to the floor.
I always try to be polite. I was raised that way. My parents taught me to say 'please' and 'thank you' and all that. Being rewarded for being polite is nice, but it's not why I do it. Then again, getting something for free is kind of nice :-)

Coolblue

What made me happy today? Getting a package from Coolblue.
And having more fun with the bow than with the contents of said box. Here's why:

- the instructions for opening the box: you can open it with a knife or scissors. But do not use a blowtorch, a saw, an axe or a jackhammer. You can apparently not use a paint-roller either :-s

- tips for extra unboxing fun: (these are in Dutch, so I'll quickly translate)
'This is a magical moment. One of the over 750000 packages we send out yearly, has ended up with you. Double the fun with following tips:
1) focus on the here and now. Breathe and observe. How big is the box? How heavy? What color does it have? What texture? What's on it?
2) Close your eyes now. Feel how both your feet are on the gr... no, no peeking. Close your eyes for real.
3) Alright, you can keep them open.
4) Open the flaps, remove the padding material a,d remove your articles.
5) Do a little dance and cheer.'

Needless to say, I've had more fun with the box so far, than with it's contents.
A quick word on Coolblue's customer service: it's great! I ordered this package on Sunday, and I already have it. They informed me of where my package was every time the status changed. I really recommend them!

Supermarket shopping

What made me happy today? The friendly cashier at the supermarket.
I don't like shopping for groceries on Saturday. The supermarket I usually shop at tends to be very crowded. Half the aisles will be blocked by people and their shopping carts, everybody needs the same things at the same time, there's a huge line at the registers and the scan your groceries faster than you can bag them...
But today I got lucky :-) It was rather calm, so I could get everything I needed in record time. The line at the cash registers wasn't too long either. However, the biggest surprise was when the cashier offered to put my groceries in the crates I brought.
I use foldable crates when I go shopping with the battlecruiser (that's what I've named my car). It prevents my groceries from sliding around in the trunk of the battlecruiser, and so the fruits and vegetables don't get squashed. I take those crates into the store with me, so I can put the groceries in them.
I do have to say, my shoulder was very happy about the cashier putting the groceries in the crates. Plus, they're good at it! She made everything fit in there nicely. So thanks, friendly mrs. cashier, for helping me out, and making me happy!
