DokuPe

What made me happy today? DokuPe!
If you're wondering what DokuPe is, you clearly haven't seen Kami-sama no Memo-chō (heaven's memo pad). Kami-sama no Memo-chō is a definite must see anime, centering around the NEET detective agency. One of the main characters, Alice, never seems to drink anything but DokuPe.
Now what is DokuPe? It's the Japanese phonetic way of saying Dr. Pepper! It took me a while to figure it out too :-)
But it's funny, as I really like Dr. Pepper myself! Too bad it can be a bit hard to find in this region. Not all supermarkets carry it. The ones that do usually don't carry it at all times or run out rather fast.
I managed to get my hands on some yesterday, so right now I'm enjoying an nice, cold DokuPe. Sunday doesn't get much better than this :-)

Superstar!

What made me happy today? I'm a superstar!
Lol, not really of course. But one of my managers did call me that.
I am currently working on two projects. Both of them had deadlines today. One project didn't have many problems, and if there were any, they were solved easily. The other project had a bigger issues. Things that urgently needed done, and being unable to reach to people that needed to do it. And so on and so forth. After what feels like a million emails, calls and text messages I finally managed to get a hold of someone that I desperately needed. I updated the manager about this and he said 'wow, you're the first star of the day'. Yay me!
After another big push, some creative thinking and a stroke of luck, I managed to pull in everything I needed for my deadline. Which I was very happy about. But the manager was apparently even happier, as he named me a 'superstar' and even told my line manager this :-) *does little happy dance*
Best way to end a month (and especially this week) full of work and stress. Now it's time for the weekend! Woohoow!

BodyTonique

What made me happy today? BodyTonique!
My order of BodyTonique arrived, and I'm really happy!
BodyTonique is an organic skin care product. According to the website and the creator (Liz) of BodyTonique it's 'a drink for your thirsty skin'.
She couldn't be more right! After I picked up my order from the post-office I went straight home to try it. A bit of fumbling with all the tape on the box later I was looking at this:

3 spray bottles of BodyTonique :-) I decided to try it out on my hands. The product is absorbed really fast and it doesn't make your skin feel oily, greasy or sticky. It just made my hands super soft, and my nails look better as well. After one application!

Before:

After:

The quality of the pictures isn't that great, I know. But I can really feel and see a difference!
I decided to do my legs next. Or leg, as I wanted a comparison. As my left leg has a lot of scars (2 knee surgeries) I felt like that one was to get the preferential treatment. Spray, rub it in, waited a few seconds and bam! One leg as soft as a baby's bottom! :-)
BodyTonique really is a great product and it works! I have very dry and sensitive skin, but right now it's feeling better than it has in a long time. After one application! Wow!
The only thing I don't like is the scent. It's lightly scented, but it has castile soap in it. I don't really care for that smell. But I will add that I have a very sensitive nose. So I checked with Liz, and she said I could add a drop or two of essential oil. Just shake the bottle before each use and done.
So it's well worth it, give it a try :-) You can find BodyTonique here: http://www.bodytonique.com , or on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/BodyTonique?ref=ts&fref=ts
And on a final note: really great customer service! So thanks Liz, for this great product!

*disclaimer: this is my personal opinion. I am in no way hired/paid/compensated by BodyTonique, or anyone else to provide my opinion*

Balance

What made me happy today? Balance!
I worked from home today. The company I work for allows us to do so, and I love it!
Working from home means not getting stuck in traffic, a better work - private life balance, getting more done, drinking my own fantastic coffee and just feeling more relaxed.
Of course it has downsides too. I have to remind myself when it's time to stop working and procrastinating is very tempting. But I had a lot to do, so no procrastinating for me.
I'm really lucky I can do this on occasion, as it really makes me happy :-)

Good guy Tesla

What made me happy today? Good guy Tesla!

Nikola Tesla. Inventor, engineer, (mad) scientist and way ahead of his time. In my opinion one of the lesser acknowledged great minds of his time. And I'm not alone in that sentiment. Check out this comic by the Oatmeal.
So when you switch on your lights this evening, don't forget to say thank you to Mr. Tesla :-)

Everybody's free

What made me happy today? Everybody's free to wear sunscreen.
It's a cold, miserable day. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, my gps screwed up, it's cold and rainy. I was glad when it was time to go home. Listening to the radio, 'Everybody is free to wear sunscreen' by Baz Luhrmann came on. It had been years since I heard that song. And I suddenly remembered the lyrics. That was just what I needed. The lyrics are below. There's a lot of useful stuff in there.
So read the lyrics and give them some thought :-)

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99:
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…
I will dispense this advice now. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked….
You’re not as fat as you imagine.
Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…
What ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can… Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..
Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen…

Coffee facts

What made me happy today? This!
While sipping a tasty cup of French press coffee (thanks Koffie Onan for the delicious coffee beans), I stumbled across the article with 15 facts about coffee. I even learned a few things! For example, I never knew that instant coffee was invented by a fellow Belgian!
Delicious coffee, and a great coffee-related comic! How could I not be happy?!

Need a pick-me-up

What made me happy today?
Life isn't always easy. Sometimes everything seems to be going wrong. Or you just woke up with a terrible mood. On days like that I like to read something that'll cheer me up a bit, and hopefully have me feeling better fast. Like this.
Of course, having great friends and plans for a cozy evening of anime help too :-)

Summer party!

What made me happy today? Summer party at work!
There was a party at the office today after work. Summer themed! And I have to say, our social committee did a great job.
Smoothies, sangria, snacks, chips and dip, not to mention all the summer style decorations! It's kind of fun to kick of the weekend in that way, even if it's at the office.
Of course, you wouldn't say it's summer when you look outside. But don't let that dampen your spirits :-)
It's weekend and the summer has officially started!

Folding math-style!

What made me happy today? Learning how to fold a t-shirt.
With math! This video teaches you how to fold a shirt in less than 2 seconds.
No, it's not a typo. Less than 2 seconds. Granted, it takes some practice to get the hang of it but once you do it really works!
So thank you math and science! I'm never spending way too much time folding shirt again :-)

Django

What made me happy today? Django unchained.
I finally got around to see Django unchained. And man, what a movie! It's epic, and a must see!
Quentin Tarantino directed this one, and of course he even played a part in it. Spoiler: he dies a rather violent and bloody death. Same goes for Hollywood's go-to bad ass Samuel L. Jackson. The cast is an assembly of acting talent, and even though this is a rather long movie, it never gets boring.
Fair warning: the films contains a lot of violence and blood, so don't watch it if you're sensitive to that stuff. And be prepared, this movie is 2 hrs and 45 minutes long. So make sure you have plenty of snacks and drinks close by :-)

Radio funny

What made me happy today? Funny things on the radio!
I usually listen to music when driving. Especially when stuck in traffic. Today I was listening to 'Studio Brussel' while driving home from work.
They were talking about the new Superman movie, 'Man of steel'. Three guesses which song they played after the talking part was over?
If you're guessing 'Kryptonite' by Three Doors Down, you're completely right! This also happens to be one of my favorite songs ever, so it made me laugh (funny) and happy (favorite song!) :-)

A father's letter

What made me happy today? A father's heartwarming letter to his daughter.
Just read this and you'll see why. And please share it, I think every girl should read this.

Code Geass

what made me happy today? Code Geass.
I finally finished watching Code Geass! And man, this is a must-see. Two seasons, 50 episodes made out of pure epic.
But the reason I love Code Geass so much is not because it's epic. It's also not because of the awesome story-line, the great character development, the lies and betrayal games or the secret identities. No, it's because the main character isn't a likeable person. He's a pompous prick, has very high self-esteem and is just generally not a caring guy. It was very refreshing to see this kind of character as the main one for an anime.
This one definitely gets my seal of approval, so pick up the DVDs and have fun!

The meaning of life

What made me happy today? The meaning of life.
Or, to be precise, Siri's answer to the question 'What's the meaning of life?'.

I got bored last night and decided to mess around with Siri a bit. So I asked about the meaning of life. I half expected '42' as the answer. But you can see the answer I really got. After I managed to stop laughing and wiped the tears from my cheeks, I decided to ask 'Chocolate?'. Which Siri took as a request for directions to the nearest chocolate shop.
I love chocolate a lot, but is it really the meaning of life?
What do you think?

Car wash

What made me happy today? Car wash!
I took my car to the car wash for the first time today! It was getting rather dirty, so opted for the easy solution: car wash. Now it's all shiny and clean!
It was fun too! I didn't really know what to do, but the nice guy at the car wash told me precisely what to do. Which isn't much, as it turns out. You just drive into this rail, put the car in neutral, take your feet of the pedals and there you go. Roll up the window, turn on some good music and off you go. It's kind of funny to go through it too, I felt like I was in a washing machine. Wait, I was!
So yeah, nice clean car, helpful staff and it's Friday. So yeah, I'm happy :-)

Mom's spaghetti

What made me happy today? My mom's spaghetti!
I had to be close to where my parents live for work today. So earlier this week I decided to call my parents and see if they would like me to come over. Of course, they said yes, and my mom wanted to know what I wanted to eat. I didn't really care, so we decided on spaghetti.
Mom's spaghetti is the best! Especially when served fresh, with a great helping of mom's love :-)

Coffee minds think alike!

What made me happy today? Getting served some coffee that was precisely right.
I was working in a hospital today. Around noon, I really started feeling like having a cup of coffee. So i asked the person I was working with if I could get one. She offered to get me one. But not before asking how I take my coffee.
Now hospital coffee is definitely not my favorite kind of coffee. It's usually pretty strong and has an edgy taste. So I told her I like a lot of milk in my coffee.
And guess what? She brought me back the perfect mug of coffee! The right amount of milk, the right temperature and everything. As it turns out, she and I take our (hospital) coffee the same way. Kind of made my day :-)

Internet!

What made me happy today? The internet!
The internet is awesome. Well, as long as you don't feed the trolls.
I live on the internet. Most of my days are spent working on a computer, with a lot of emails. A lot of my free time is spent on the internet as well. Facebook, Twitter, Skype, gaming, news, music, videos etc.
But I love the internet so much because it has put me into contact with a few amazing people over these past years. People I otherwise never would have met. And it allows me to stay in touch with friends and family who don't live that close to me.
And you can buy stuff on the internet too :-) So yay internet!
But again, whatever you do: don't.feed.the.trolls.

Super happy fun time!

What made me happy today? Having a great vacation!
I had a truly great vacation! Started with Iron Man 3, then Porta Nigra, followed by a week in the Ardennes with the BF and a few close friends.
It was great! Really relaxing too :-) We had great food, fun, music, a lot of laughs and sun. And because the weather was so great, we even did two BBQs. Yummie!
I even have a bit of a tan for the first time in years.
Too bad vacations always seem to fly by...

Porta Nigra

What made me happy today? Porta Nigra being the best way ever to start my vacation!
I'm not going to do an extended review of the shows here, as they were all great (though not all of them were my thing). But the vibe in the room was so great! There was a lot of love :-)
I got hugs from Tomas, Rose and Fredrik (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio) and from Nicolas (Empusae, Triarii, In Slaughter Natives) as well. And like I promised Tomas and Rose, I was there, front row!
It was an amazing, epic, music-filled day. I'm still so happy, some of the bands gave me the feeling that I was being wrapped in a cocoon of sound.
So yeah, one very happy me :-)

Na na nanana

What made me happy today? Iron Man!
Well, iron Man 3 to be precise. I finally got around to watching it yesterday.
And boy, I must say that it's a really great movie. I had my doubts at the start of the movie, because it opened with 'I'm blue' by Eiffel 65. But it really fits in!
I must admit this: I never liked watching movies with Robert Downey Junior. He comes across as being a bit condescending or snooty or something like that. But when he plays Tony Stark it works, because that's a part of who Tony Stark is. And who doesn't like Tony Stark?
I'm not going to tell you what happens in the movie, just watch it yourself. It's worth it! But I will tell you my favorite joke from the movie. Woman: 'Is that all you've got? A cheap trick and a cheesy one-liner?' Tony: 'Baby, that could be the title of my autobiography.' Lol.
So make sure to catch this one in the theater!
